Kids Infinity Scarf – Scarf Week Day 3

My girl is super fashion; she loves to wear dresses and accessories. She asks me why she doesn’t have scarves like mines and I actually never know what to answer. We never bought or made any for her because her coats are usually so stuffed that don’t leave much room for scarves, but this scarf week gave me the perfect excuse to make her this cute kids infinity scarf made out of fabric scraps and hand drawn heart doodles because she specifically said she wanted hearts in it LOL.

When I think of thing to make to my girl, the wave of ideas and inspiration I get is so big that often I get stuck and don’t know where to start. This time at least I knew I was going to make a scarf but then, what kind of scarf?

So went to my craft box where I have all sort of stuff I think might be useful someday LOL and I found these fabric scraps and they turned out to be perfect for this project!

When I asked my girl what would she want me to make, she without thinking too much said “mommy hearts, I want hearts” and I was like “Ok, hearts but how?” I thought about heat transfer vinyl, stencil painted but it wasn’t quite what I wanted.

And then it hit me! “Oh! Permanent Markers!!!!!”

Great-Idea-Meme

Hahaha and that was it! I used my own hands to make {again} imperfect hearts. I had lots of fun making this. So relaxing and stress free!

Let’s see how I made it! This Scarf project is for sewists and not so sewists!!!

What you need:

  • Fabric scraps {12 x 17.5 Inches or 30 x 45 cm} in 2 colors {2 pieces of each}
  • Permanent Markers {like Bic or Sharpie} in the color of your choice.
  • Sewing machine Optional you can hand sew it too.

Iron each piece of fabric and alternate colors. Stitch them together to make a long strip of fabric.

In the lighter color start drawing my hearts and filling them roughly.

IMG_6517-2

I must say this again, I was having SO MUCH FUN!!! hahaha!

IMG_6521-2

Keep going until you fill the whole area of both light color pieces.

IMG_6524-2

Then fold the strip of fabric lengthwise matching mix color seam and stitch along the raw edge.

IMG_6528-2

Turn it inside out and join raw edges of both ends right side together.

IMG_6530-2

Stitch along the raw edges until the fabric of the scarf itself won’t let you stitch anymore. Once you straighten it, you will get a small whole, stitch it to close it

Iron the infinity scarf and make loops!

how fun, easy and lovely!! what a great idea to paint on the cloth – that gives everyone such a great way to personalize their own scarves! Thanks for sharing with Snickerdoodle Sunday!

Another knock-out project from you, Cami! I think it’s so sweet that you took your daughter’s special request for hearts into consideration and then used your creativity to make it happen. I think the hand-drawn hearts really add so much character and personality to it! Well done, my dear. Sooooo glad you were a part of Scarf Week 2015, Cami. It was bigger, better, and scarfy-er because of you! Off to pin….
