Large mixing bowl
Four small bowls or containers
Measuring cups and spoons
Mixing spoon
Small spoon or spatula for layering
Clean, dry 8-ounce jar with a tight-fitting lid, or a slightly larger jar if needed
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba, fractionated coconut, or olive oil
- 15 drops skin-safe essential oil optional
- 3 teaspoons dragon fruit powder divided
Add the carrier oil and essential oil to a small bowl. Stir until combined.
Pour the oil mixture over the sugar.
Stir until the sugar is evenly coated and resembles damp sand.
Divide the scrub evenly between four small containers.
Add ¼ teaspoon dragon fruit powder to the first portion.
Add ½ teaspoon dragon fruit powder to the second portion.
Add ¾ teaspoon dragon fruit powder to the third portion.
Add 1½ teaspoons dragon fruit powder to the fourth portion.
Mix each portion thoroughly until the colors are evenly blended.
Spoon the darkest shade into the bottom of the jar and gently press it into an even layer.
Add the second-darkest shade and press it down carefully.
Continue with the remaining colors, finishing with the lightest shade on top.
Wipe the rim clean and close the jar tightly.
- Essential oils are optional. A soft floral scent works especially well with this scrub.
- Only use essential oils at skin-safe dilution levels and follow the supplier’s usage guidelines.
- Dragon fruit powder varies in color, so adjust it gradually if your four shades are not distinct enough.
- Cosmetic-grade mica can be used instead of dragon fruit powder. Start with a tiny amount and increase it gradually.
- Keep all water out of the jar. Use a dry spoon instead of wet fingers whenever possible.
- Store tightly covered in a cool, dry place.
- Use within three to six months and discard it sooner if the smell, texture, or appearance changes.
- For external use only. Avoid the face, eyes, broken skin, and freshly shaved or irritated areas.
- Patch test before using, especially when adding essential oils.
