Elegant Black, White and Gold Christmas Home Tour

Oh my goodness! This year’s Christmas decorating has been such a wonderful experience! After years of rustic, farmhouse, and Nordic-inspired Christmas decorations, I finally decided to try something completely different. An elegant black, white, and gold Christmas theme! And I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love how everything turned out!

Usually, I have a very specific idea in my head, and finding the decorations to make it happen becomes a whole adventure. But this year? Everything seemed to fall into place. I found almost everything I wanted without spending weeks searching, and even my husband got involved with ideas and decorating suggestions. I was SO in the mood for this year’s decorations!

I also bought a brand-new, beautiful, fluffy flocked Christmas tree, made some new centerpieces, played around with lots of black and gold details, and added something I’d been wanting to try for a while: warm string lights behind our white sheer curtains. OH MY GOODNESS! The difference those lights made!

I enjoyed decorating every little corner, and I couldn’t be happier with the final look.

So, grab your favorite drink, come on in, and let me show you around our Christmas home!

Our Black, White and Gold Christmas Decorations

If you’ve followed my Christmas home tours for a while, you probably know that I LOVE changing my Christmas theme every year.

I’ve had pink and blue Christmas decorations, pink and gold, blue and white, buffalo plaid, and lots of rustic and snowy Christmas themes.

I have loved them all for different reasons, but I realized something while planning this year’s decorations. I didn’t have a single complete collection of elegant Christmas decor!

Most of what I had collected over the years leaned toward rustic and Nordic styles, with natural wood, plaid patterns, and softer colors. Nothing wrong with that, of course! I still love those decorations, but I was ready for a change.

I had been imagining a beautiful snowy tree with big black ribbons, white ornaments, and touches of gold. Something a little more sophisticated, but still filled with all the little Christmas details I enjoy.

I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to bring that vision to life, especially since I would have to buy quite a few new pieces.

To my surprise, shopping for this theme was probably the easiest Christmas decorating shopping I’ve ever done!

I kept finding things that matched what I had pictured, and I was having so much fun putting everything together that I didn’t want to stop. Haha!

And since our living and dining rooms share the same space, I wanted the colors to flow naturally from one area to another.

Let’s start at the front door!

Welcome to Our Christmas Home!

You know I love starting my Christmas home tours right at the entrance.

This year, I decorated our front door with a beautiful flocked Christmas wreath to match our new theme.

I used a snowy green wreath with black velvet bows, black and gold Christmas ornaments, and a few shiny gold accents.

I love the contrast between the snowy branches and the black bows. It’s simple, but the colors make such a difference!

The wreath also has a little silver reindeer decoration hanging above it. I love reindeer, and you’ll notice quite a few of them throughout our home. Apparently, I can’t decorate for Christmas without them! LOL!

And those little black velvet bows? I used them in other areas of the house too, so everything feels connected.

Now, come inside!

As we walk toward the living and dining room, the first thing you’ll notice right in front of you is our dining table. And just off to the right is our Christmas tree, although you can’t really appreciate the whole tree until you move farther into the room.

But we’ll save the tree for last!

Our Elegant Black, White and Gold Christmas Dining Room

This year, I wanted our dining table to look elegant without making it overly complicated.

Our dining table and chairs are all white, and I thought using a black tablecloth would be a beautiful way to introduce this year’s color palette.

And WOW! I was right!

The black tablecloth changed the entire look of the dining area.

I added a white table runner with gold snowflakes right down the center, and I love how it breaks up the black and brings in some beautiful Christmas details.

For the place settings, I kept things quite simple. White plates, soft white napkins, and black velvet stars placed on top.

Those little black stars are probably one of my favorite details on the table!

I love how they stand out against the white dishes without needing anything else.

I also used clear wine glasses because I didn’t want to add too many competing details.

But, of course, I couldn’t leave the table without a Christmas centerpiece!

My Handmade Christmas Dining Table Centerpiece

This is one of the arrangements I had the most fun making.

I used a long white wooden tray and filled it with a snowy base. Then I arranged a few white ceramic Christmas trees, smaller gold trees, white reindeer, and three tall white twisted candles in black candleholders.

I love those twisted candles! Their shape adds such a beautiful detail, and the black candleholders give just enough contrast against the white decorations.

The ceramic trees have a lovely glossy finish, and I especially like how the little gold trees add some sparkle between the white pieces.

I played around with the placement until I liked how the different heights worked together.

I didn’t make a tutorial for this particular centerpiece, but it was really fun to arrange, and you could create something similar using Christmas decorations you already have.

The best part is that everything sits together on the tray, so I can easily move the entire arrangement whenever we need the table.

And when I turn on the little lights tucked between the decorations and light the candles, the whole centerpiece looks SO pretty!

Decorating Our White Dining Room Cabinets

Behind our dining table, we have our tall white glass-front cabinets.

I normally decorate the tops of these cabinets for Christmas, and this year I decided to keep things coordinated with the tree.

White glass-front dining room cabinets decorated with flocked Christmas garland, black velvet ribbon, and gold ornaments.

I used a long flocked Christmas garland and decorated it with black velvet ribbon, black ornaments, gold Christmas balls, and a few lighter accents.

I really love how the garland looks against the white cabinets.

The snowy branches soften the darker decorations, and the black ribbon makes everything stand out.

I also love that the garland adds Christmas decorations to this side of the room without taking up any space on the dining table.

The eucalyptus arrangements on each side of the cabinets stayed in place, and I think the greenery works nicely with the snowy garland.

In one of the little corners beside the cabinets, I arranged some white lanterns, a black reindeer, and a basket filled with gold Christmas ornaments.

It’s a small detail, but I love having little Christmas surprises around the room.

Our Christmas Living Room

Now let’s move over to the living room!

This is where we spend most of our time together, so I wanted to bring in the more elegant look without making everything feel too formal.

Our white sectional sofa gave me a beautiful blank canvas to work with.

Bright Christmas living room with white sectional sofa, black and gold pillows, plaid blankets, and black and white Christmas decorations.

I changed the pillows to black, white, and gold. Some are solid black, others are white, and a few have delicate gold patterns.

I especially love the gold-patterned pillows against the black ones. They bring in the gold without making it too overwhelming.

And yes, I kept my black, white, and gray plaid blankets!

I know, I know! I was supposed to be moving away from rustic Christmas decor. LOL!

But I love those blankets, and they look so nice with the new pillows. Besides, I still want to be able to grab a blanket, curl up on the couch, and enjoy a Christmas movie.

I also added some white textured blankets to keep everything soft and comfortable.

And look who made himself comfortable on our sofa!

He might not match the new color palette perfectly, but he’s staying! Haha!

Our Christmas Decorations Behind the Sofa

Behind our sofa, we have a long, low surface that I love decorating for Christmas.

This year, I used two gold and silver nutcrackers, gold bottle-brush Christmas trees, black reindeer, white lamps, and some greenery.

I love nutcrackers, and these two look especially pretty with their gold outfits and silver crowns.

I placed them between the little gold Christmas trees and added black reindeer figures to bring in the darker accents.

The white lamps were already there, and I think they help balance the arrangement.

I also added a little greenery and warm string lights along the back.

And let me tell you, this entire little area looks gorgeous once the lights are on!

The gold trees catch the light, the lamps add a lovely warm glow, and the black reindeer stand out so beautifully against the white curtains.

On the other side of the sofa, I decorated a small cabinet with greenery, a vase filled with eucalyptus branches, black reindeer, and a Christmas sign.

I added a soft white covering underneath the decorations, which helps connect everything with the snowy theme.

I really enjoyed working with black this year. It’s such a beautiful contrast against all the white furniture in our living room.

Our Handmade Christmas Coffee Table Village

Now, this might be one of my favorite little arrangements in the whole living room!

I created a snowy Christmas village right on our coffee table.

White Christmas coffee table with handmade black and white ceramic Christmas village, gold accents, candle, and white pickup truck.

I used a white wooden tray and filled it with faux snow. Then I arranged a collection of black and white ceramic houses, white Christmas trees, little black trees, and gold glitter trees.

Some of the black houses have thin gold details on their rooftops, and I absolutely love them!

I mixed them with the white ceramic houses to create a little village that matched our new theme.

The white trees add different heights, while the gold trees bring in little touches of sparkle.

I love how the snowy base makes the black houses stand out.

And when I turn on the lights inside the houses, the whole village glows!

Oh my goodness, it looks adorable!

Outside the tray, I added a few more little decorations.

Remember my handmade Christmas wooden stacked books? I brought them back this year!

They’re white with gold lettering, and I tied them with a simple black ribbon to make them work with the new colors.

I placed a little black house and a silver reindeer on top.

I also added my little white Christmas pickup truck carrying a green tree, and a beautiful scented candle.

I love reusing decorations from previous years, especially the ones I’ve made myself.

Sometimes all they need is a little change, like adding a different ribbon or pairing them with new pieces, and suddenly they fit a completely different Christmas theme.

And yes, that little white truck is another decoration I can’t seem to put away for Christmas. Haha!

Our Black, White and Gold Christmas TV Console

Across from the sofa is our TV console.

We use an IKEA Kallax unit with white doors and baskets underneath, and I love decorating it for Christmas because it gives me such a nice long surface.

This year, I created another snowy Christmas village, but with a slightly different arrangement from the coffee table.

I placed a flocked garland along the back and added some warm string lights between the branches.

Then I arranged white ceramic houses with glittery gold rooftops, black Christmas trees, white ceramic trees, and little metallic reindeer.

I also used black and white candleholders in different heights, with white and gold candles.

I love how the black candleholders balance the white houses and how the gold rooftops connect with the ornaments on the tree.

The little light gold and gold reindeer are another favorite detail. They look so pretty tucked between the Christmas houses.

And although the decorations are all different heights, they still leave enough space below the TV.

I also hung four white Christmas stockings from the cabinet doors.

They have soft white fabric and delicate decorative details, and I love how they look hanging in front of the white cabinet doors.

I kept them white because I didn’t want this area to feel too dark.

At the bottom of the console, I also kept a little nativity scene and some Christmas lanterns.

I love having those familiar decorations in our home, even when I change the colors and style.

Now, there’s something else I want to show you before we get to the Christmas tree!

The Christmas Lights That Changed the Whole Room

Okay, you guys, I have to tell you about these lights because I am completely in love with them!

This year, I decided to install warm white vertical string lights behind our sheer white curtains.

I’ve wanted to try this for a while, and I finally did it!

Our living and dining rooms have large windows covered with long white sheer curtains, so I thought the lights would look beautiful shining through the fabric.

But I didn’t expect to love the effect THIS much!

During the day, the lights are barely noticeable, and the curtains look pretty much the same as always.

But when the daylight starts to fade and I turn on the lights…

OH MY GOODNESS!!!

The entire room changes!

The little warm lights shine softly through the white curtains, almost like tiny glowing stars.

And because the curtains cover such a large part of our living and dining room, the lights create this beautiful backdrop behind everything.

I especially love how they look behind the dining table and our sofa.

With the Christmas villages illuminated, the candles glowing, the little lamps turned on, and the tree all lit up, everything looks so beautiful together.

I could honestly sit there for hours just looking at it.

And here’s something I realized while taking the photos.

The daytime decorations are beautiful, but the evening lighting gives them a completely different look.

The black decorations stand out even more against all the warm lights, and the gold pieces reflect that glow so nicely.

I’m SO glad I decided to try the curtain lights this year.

I have a feeling this might become one of my favorite Christmas decorating traditions!

And Finally, Our Elegant Black, White and Gold Christmas Tree!

And now, my absolute favorite part of the tour!

Our Christmas tree!

Elegant flocked Christmas tree decorated with black velvet ribbons, white snowflakes, gold ornaments, and black and gold star wall decorations.

I have to admit, this year’s tree was a pretty big change for me.

First, I decided to replace our previous flocked tree.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved that tree! It was gorgeous and had served us beautifully for several Christmases.

But it had a more Nordic style, with a less dense silhouette, and I wanted something fuller and fluffier for this year’s theme.

I was imagining a big, bushy tree with lots of snowy branches, and I knew the previous one wasn’t going to give me that look.

So I sold it and bought a brand-new flocked Christmas tree.

And I couldn’t be happier!

The new tree is SO beautiful! Its full, snowy branches are exactly what I had pictured for the black, white, and gold decorations.

I used wide black velvet ribbon with gold edges, beautiful Christmas balls in black, white, and gold, large white snowflakes, and some of my handmade ornaments.

The black ribbon creates these beautiful waves through the snowy branches, and the gold details look amazing when the warm lights are on.

I also included some of our personalized Christmas ornaments and a few sentimental handmade pieces.

After all, I love having decorations on our Christmas tree that mean something to our family.

I shared all the details, including the ornaments, handmade projects, and how I put the entire tree together, in my Elegant Black, White and Gold Christmas Tree Decor post.

So if you love the tree as much as I do, you can see everything there!

And Guess What? I Don’t Have to Move My Office Anymore! LOL!

If you’ve been following my Christmas home tours for several years, you might remember something funny about our old apartment.

Every Christmas, I used to rearrange the living room and move my desk so I could fit the tree!

It was practically part of our Christmas decorating routine. Haha!

Well, those days are officially OVER!

We moved into our current home about four years ago, and now the tree has its own dedicated space.

I don’t need to move my desk, relocate my office, or rearrange half the living room anymore.

My desk stays in my office, the tree gets its own corner, and everybody is happy!

Seriously, I can’t tell you how nice that is.

And this new fluffy tree fits beautifully in that space.

Decorating Around the Bottom of the Tree

Of course, I couldn’t stop decorating at the branches.

Around the bottom of the tree, I used a black tree skirt and arranged a few Christmas gifts, lanterns, and some of my favorite little winter characters.

There’s a cute winter gnome sitting on a little wooden sled, some adorable white fluffy characters, and a few decorative gift boxes.

I also added my white handmade decorative hoops with greenery, pinecones, and gold snowflakes.

I love how they fill the space under the branches and bring in a little more white and gold.

The black tree skirt makes all those decorations stand out beautifully.

And yes, there are still some playful little Christmas characters around my elegant tree.

I couldn’t resist! LOL!

I don’t think I’ll ever decorate a Christmas tree without adding a few cute details here and there.

A Few Things I Loved About This Year’s Christmas Decorations

Now that I’ve finished decorating, there are a few things I particularly loved about working with black, white, and gold.

I think using black against our white furniture made a huge difference. I didn’t realize how beautiful that contrast would look until I started putting everything together.

The gold accents were another favorite. I didn’t want gold everywhere, but adding it through the ornaments, candleholders, Christmas trees, and little decorative details helped connect the whole room.

I also loved working with different textures. The flocked greenery, velvet ribbons, ceramic houses, soft pillows, and blankets all bring something different to the decorations.

But my favorite addition, besides the new tree, has to be those curtain lights!

They made such a difference, and I honestly can’t imagine our Christmas decorations without them now.

Another thing I enjoyed was mixing new pieces with decorations I’ve collected or made over the years.

Just because I decided to try a more elegant Christmas theme didn’t mean I had to replace everything.

Some decorations worked perfectly with the new colors, and others only needed a small change.

I think that combination helped make this year’s decorations feel more personal.

Until Next Christmas…

Well, that’s our Christmas home tour for this year!

I have to say, I enjoyed this theme SO much.

From finding all the decorations without the usual endless searching, to getting my new flocked tree, making the centerpieces, and seeing the whole room illuminated for the first time, everything came together even better than I imagined.

And having my husband involved, sharing ideas and little decorating suggestions, made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

I really felt like I was in my element this year!

And the funniest thing?

I’m already thinking about next Christmas. Haha!

I loved decorating with black so much that I’m seriously considering using it again next year.

But this time, I’m imagining black with a beautiful deep burgundy and gold. Maybe something even more elegant, a little dramatic, and with lots of beautiful textures.

Ohhhh, I can already picture it!

Of course, knowing me, I might change my mind several times before next Christmas. We’ll see!

I hope you enjoyed walking through our home with me and that you found a few ideas you might want to try with your own Christmas decorations.

I’d love to know what you think!
