DIY Birthday Party Message Board {from Contributor Lisa}
Hi I’m Lisa from The Thrifty Challenge. I am here today to share with all you lovely TitiCrafty readers. I’m sharing an idea for a special birthday party message board.
DIY Birthday Party Message Board {from Contributor Lisa}
My Mum recently turned 60 and I wanted to throw her a party and but also give her a little something from the guests that she could keep and take home to read. I decided to make a board where guests could write special messages for Mum. The board needed to have visual impact but give Mum something small to store (and not a big bulky display item that takes up lots of room).
After exploring options I settled on making a board labelled ’60 reasons we’re happy Sharyn was born.’ Attached to the board were 60 pieces of paper that guests could complete over the course of the evening. The pieces of paper were attached with pegs and this meant Mum could unpeg the notes and take home a little bag of 60 written messages at the end of the evening rather than a huge board.
To make this you need:
- 1 large board with a hook on the back
- Paper of your choice
- 60 pegs
- Black paint
- Glue gun
- Chalk/white pencil
I’m all for reusing things I already have in craft projects so I used the backing board of an old picture frame I had where the glass had broken but you could also use a large piece of cardboard.
I painted it black and cut out some triangles of coloured paper to make the bunting as doesn’t bunting make everything that little bit cuter?
For the text I used a white pencil to write as I could write neater than with chalk but whatever works best for you.
I then used a glue gun to stick down my 60 pegs before attaching 60 rectangle sized pieces I’d cut from some pale yellow origami paper.
For this project I only purchased the pegs (which are craft pegs so smaller than your average sized clothesline peg) and then used what I had to complete it.
I am all for being thrifty and using items you own and this DIY is good for that. Parties are expensive to host, and making decorations is a good way to save a few dollars.
I hung the board from an original hook and placed it near the entrance way to ensure all guests would pass it.I also put some extra rectangle pieces of paper in the pineapple bowl so anyone that made a mistake could re write their one if needed (and all the leftover paper went so people must have made a few mistakes!).
At the end of the evening the papers were placed in a little tin for Mum to take home and she was excited to read through them all and have this special keepsake of a fun night. Easy project, fun result- I call that a win!
I hope you like this DIY idea and would love for you to stop by and have a look at my blog, The Thrifty Challenge.
