Easter Condensed Milk Truffles AKA Papitas de Leche Condensada
In Venezuela, it’s usual to leave them white, they are presented in chocolate-sized truffles and are finished by decorating them with a clove on top that gives them a very characteristic smell and flavor. Although when eating the balls they have to be removed because their flavor is too strong to eat.
In this recipe, I show you how to make this traditional recipe and how to turn this fantastic candy into colored little Easter eggs to make them more striking and attractive to embellish your dessert tables and use them for parties and gifts on special occasions.
What is Pepitas de Leche?
Papitas de Leche are a traditional Venezuelan sweet. They really are like milk truffles, made with sweetened condensed milk, powdered milk, and sugar glass.
This easy recipe has its Origin in Venezuelan, more specifically in the state of Merida and there they are known by any of all these names, “Bolitas de Leche, Papitas de Leche, Mazapan de Leche, Delicias de leche, etc.
They are little pieces of heaven, and to make things even better; theyโre super easy to make since you only need 3 ingredients. Perfect for sharing with friends or even as a sweet gift.
By combining the 3 ingredients of the recipe we obtain an absolutely delicious and very malleable sweet dough, with which we can make practically any shape that we can think of.
What’s so special about these Condensed Milk Truffles
Well, besides being one of the sweetest childhood memories, it’s part of our culture and traditions. There’s no road trip if we don’t get some of these during bus stops.
But being honest Itโs just like a truffle but made with condensed milk, of course (LOL That’s why I called them Condensed milk truffles), that is so delicious, crave-worthy, and perfect for kids’ parties and a perfect afternoon treat with friends over.
In Venezuela, kids love this treat and it’s so common to find them in those shops along the interstate roads but also lots of bakeries and small shops sell them as well.
However, if you can make them at home is also great right? And if you can dye them and make them egg-shaped for Easter even better, right?

How to make Cute Easter Condensed Milk Truffles
Ingredients:
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk.
- 1 1/2 Cup of Icing sugar
- 2 cups of powdered milk
Optional for decoration
- Food coloring
- Peeps sprinkles.
- Milk Chocolate for nest.
*In Venezuela they use cloves as garnish and also give some flavor but since it would look weird pinched on Easter eggs, I just skip that ingredient.
Directions:
- Mix in a medium bowl with a wooden spoon or a whisk the condensed milk and powdered milk until well blended.
- Then start adding the icing sugar portions by portions and mix until itโs thick enough to use hands.
- Keep adding the icing sugar until you have a homogeneous dough that is soft and moldable and doesnโt stick on your hands.
- This process can be a little messy, as you add in ingredients the dough sticks on your fingers but in some point, the dough does get thicker and stops being so sticky.
- For the regular recipe, make balls and sprinkle it with a bit of icing sugar, stick in a clove on top and place them in mini cups.
- In this case, separate the mixture in 3 portions and dye each one with a different color.
- Add in more icing sugar if needed.
- I used light pink, blue and yellow {but since the dough is kind of yellowish my eggs turned out light green!}.
- First, make small balls and then start shaping them like little eggs.
- Don’t worry if they don’t stay like perfect eggs, they will spread a bit once you place them on a surface, but they still look so super cute. They tend to dry a bit outside so you can adjust shape if you want later.
- Shred some Chocolate on a cute dish to make a nest. And place the eggs in the yummy nest.
Quick Tips
- You can turn this recipe into Chocolate truffles by using 2 tsp cocoa powder directly or melting chocolate in the condensed milk before starting the recipe.
- If you like to use cloves on top of the truffles, you can just make them as the original recipe, rounded, and stick one on each.
- Use a small ice scoop to easily portion out the truffles evenly.
- Dust your hands with icing sugar to make the rolling and shaping process easier.
- Be sure to store these Pepitas de Leche – Condensed Milk Truffles in a dry, sealed container.
- Theyโre perfect for parties, gatherings, reunions, and even as a gift idea. Wrap these milk truffles in cellophane and pack them in cute boxes or baskets.
