Bacon and Green Pea Soup Recipe

Mom and I love easy-peasy recipes. We both like making quick meals full of flavor and of course full of love! So this one makes a perfect dinner.

Since we made this soup together, this recipe is being shared on my momโ€™s blog in Spanish and here in English.

I believe that there is nothing richer, more comforting, and soul-warming than a delicious hot soup when the weather is cold.

Often friends ask me “But soup alone? I don’t fill up! I need something more!”

Well, that’s because you didn’t try this soup, lol, I like to make them “charged”, filling, and powerful!

I love to have this type of soup with something crunchy, it can be toast, croutons, etc.

This soup doesn’t have any type of cheese or cream, its creaminess only comes from the peas and potatoes, whether it turns out to be more or less creamy will depend on how much you blend it and how much liquid you add, so you can give it the consistency you want without using anything extra.

However, I love pouring a little bit of heavy cream once it’s served in the soup bowl.

How to make Bacon and Green Pea Soup

Ingredients:

  • Frozen Green Peas
  • Sliced bacon.
  • Onion
  • Garlic cloves โ€“ smashed
  • Celery
  • Potatoes
  • Vegetable stock.
  • Salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Heavy cream {optional}

Directions:

Cut vegetables into small pieces.

In a large pot fry the bacon over medium-high heat until crunchy. Alternatively, you can try baking it in the oven until it’s crispy.

Add in onion, celery, potatoes, salt, and pepper and mix them letting all vegetables to golden.

Add in the green peas and mix and stir in the stock.

Cook over medium heat until green peas are soft.

Let it cool and blend it to create a creamy texture. You can use a blender or a immersion blender.

To serve, heat it a little bit and enjoy!

Green Peas have such a great flavor on their own, they really donโ€™t need much else, however, you can add a tablespoon of heavy cream to your soup to add some extra flavor and texture and also add some crushed fried bacon on top!

It tastes so good!

This green pea soup is so good and you can never go wrong with bacon LOL. It keeps you warm and believe me is so good!

Cooking Tips

* To balance out the savory flavors, add a touch of sweetness to your soup. How? Sneak in a couple of chopped carrots while cooking the green peas. They’ll bring a natural sweetness to the mix, making your soup taste even more delightful.

* Fresh herbs like thyme, rosemary, or even mint can take your soup from “meh” to “heck yeah!” Just chop them up and sprinkle them in during the final minutes of cooking. The aromatic burst will give your soup that extra pizzazz.

* To give your soup a delightful crunch, garnish it with some crispy croutons or roasted sunflower seeds. The contrast between the creamy soup and the crunchy toppings will make each spoonful a party in your mouth. Crunch, slurp, repeat!

* Right before serving, drizzle a little bit of extra virgin olive oil on top of your soup. It not only adds a luxurious touch but also enhances the flavors and gives your creation that glossy, food-magazine-worthy appearance.

Benefits of Green Pea Soup

Peas are very rich in carbohydrates, proteins, soluble fiber, minerals, and vitamins A, C, and B complex. Thanks to the soluble fiber, peas are beneficial for proper intestinal function, so you will eliminate saturated fats and you will avoid constipation.

Also, it provides energy, strengthens bones due to its iron content, and it’s been said that it even prevents colon cancer or so I’ve read.

This delicious pea soup contains beta-carotene, which helps fight free radicals, which cause premature aging.

Of course, the bacon is not as healthy but gosh it tastes good. So you can definitely turn this soup vegetarian and even vegan by not adding the bacon and the heavy cream.

I’m by no means a doctor or an expert so this is just for reference. I love to read about what benefits food brings to us.

I used to get a canned version of this soup but it’s so much better to make it from scratch. So glad I found this delicious recipe.
