Upcycled Fruit Crate Jewelry Organizer

One thing I love the most about the organization is having everything handy, nothing hidden, nothing that makes it hard to remember that I have it. Recently, I posted an idea of how to keep hair clips Organized and handy and also another one to keep Earrings super handy. I love all that kind of organization items that can also be decorative =P. That’s why I made this cute Super Crafty Upcycled Fruit Crate Jewelry Organizer.

DIY Super Crafty Upcycled Fruit Crate Jewelry Organizer

I saw many ideas on many blogs and on Pinterest about getting our stuff organized and ideas using crates. I saw this cute Jewelry hanger from A Time for Everything and also loved this fun Jewelry Holder from Sadie Seasongoods I got this idea that I could make a jewelry organizer with a crate, some hangers, lace, and small containers. The problem was that I didn’t have any kind of crate, wooden box, or anything like that to make it.

One day I was going for walking with Emma and I saw these strawberries crate over a pile of boxes and I thought, “this is just what I need!!!”. Of course, I took it home without a second thought LOL.

I just loved how it turned out. I fell in love with it!!! Hope you like it too. Here is how I made it. I found it easy to make but it takes its time, but don’t worry it’s not that much and you will have tons of fun!

Supplies you need:

  • A crate {wooden box or small drawer would work too}
  • Spray Paint white
  • Spray paint of your choice {2 different colors}
  • Ribbons
  • Lace
  • Some small plastic containers
  • Scrapbook Paper
  • White Glue or Mod Podge
  • Some small hangers {normal ones}
  • Some cups hangers
  • 2 Wall paints hangers
  • Hot glue gun
All the supplies needed to make the jewelry organizer

Preparing and painting the crate for the Jewelry Organizer

First of all clean well the crate and the containers and protect your painting space.

I spray-painted the crate in white first so it would be easier to cover with the pink color I chose.

Then I spray painted the containers on the outside, 2 green and 1 white. I waited about an hour between coats and applied 3 coats on the crate and the containers. Left it over night. These were used to hold rings, watches, and smal things that can not be hung!

Then I measured well the scrapbook paper to fit in the bottom of the crate and glued it with white glue a thinned with water {just enough to make it easier to spread or you could use Mod Podge}. I waited about an hour and applied some more glue on top of it to seal the paper.

I left it for a couple of hours to dry well (you don’t have to wait for that much, I’m just paranoid) and then started to apply the hangers.

The normal hangers were used in the inside of the crate close to the top. I tried to space them regularly. I used them to hang my bracelets.

Also used on each side of the crate.

On the outside of the crate, where it would supposed to be the bottom of the organizer I applied the cup hangers. This is to hang the necklaces =D

Here is a Tip: I used the double sided tape that comes in the hangers but I also reinforced it by adding some extra hot glue.

Then I glued the lace to both wooden crate corners and decorated the ends with cute ribbon bows. This supposed to hold earrings.

The next step was decorating the Jewelry Organizer it with the ribbons.

I used 2 different ribbons, light blue Organza, and white grosgrain. I put those ribbons around the border of the whole box and added a cute bow to the top.

The last step but not least was applying the wall hangers on the back of the crate. They come in different models and sizes, so just apply it using the directions. In this case, I just made sure they were aligned and at the same distance from the edges on both sides.
