Flowers & Denim Hat for Little Girls
I’ve always had a think for hats even though I haven’t been brave enough to wear them as often as I would like. I love them especially those cute hats they used to wear back in the 20s and 30s. Oh yeah, I love them! Ha! So since I didn’t used hats, I decided to make my little girl use them LOL. I made this cute flowers and denim hat for my daughter and gladly she loved it too! Remember the Flowers & Denim Dress I shared recently? Well, the hat and the dress match and look so cute!
Flowers & Denim Hat for Little Girls
I also used for this the New Look Pattern by Simplicity that my mom bought at Walmart and never used it LOL. It was simple enough to make for someone who is not even close to a pro LOL. This one is SO easy to make that I feel like making a dozen LOL You will see these patterns often around here LOL.
What you need:
- 1 yard of 60 inches denim fabric.
- 3/4 yard of 20 to 25 inches of contrast fabric.
- 1/2 yard grosgrain ribbon
Just like my denim dress I transferred the pattern to another paper, cut and placed on the fabric to cut.
The hat crown piece is cut in denim fabric 6 times, contrast fabric 6 times and the hat brim’s is cut twice in contrast fabric. The pattern suggests using interfacing but I didn’t want to.
With right sides together, pin hat crown sections together, matching small dots. Stitch and press seam open.
Stitch center back seam of brim and brim facing. With right sides together, stitch brim and brim facing matching centers leaving inner edges open. Layer seam; clip curves.
Turn brim right side out; press. Machine-baste raw edges together.
With right sides together, pin brim to hat, matching small dots. Baste Along seam line. Baste along seam line
Stitch seams of hat crown lining {contrast fabric} the same as for hat crown . With right sides together pin lining to hat, {over brim} matching small dots, having raw edges even. Stitch, leaving an opening to turn at center back. Trim seam.
Turn right side out, turning lining to inside. Press. Slip-stitch opening closed. On the outside seam pin ribbon along seam line between brim and crown.
You can also place some appliques like ribbon bows or bigger bows. Whatever you like. I chose to leave it like that! And the ribbon matches the ribbon bow from the dress!
Done!!!
It’s your turn now! What do you think??? Do you like how this denim hat turned out? Have you made any hat like this? Or have you used these patterns before???
