Buffalo check is a big trend in winter and Christmas decorating this year, especially Black and white. This black and white Christmas Tree does not disappoint with its trendy yet classic style.
As I have mentioned in the past, I moved to a new country a few years ago and we came with only a few bags and lots of hopes. One of my biggest goals has always been to have a really cozy and personal Christmas decor and Iโm so happy that I have been able to accomplish it all these past years.
This year since I already had lots of handmade {and store-bought} ornaments, I started working on the ornaments I wanted to make specially for the black and white theme of this year.
Itโs been so exciting. Every time I see the tree I feel so joyful and excited, so fun of full of joy and hope. Christmas has always been my favorite time of the year and I always love for our Christmas Tree to be special.
I decided to choose for this yearโs Christmas theme Black and white Buffalo check and I canโt be happier with how the decor turned out. Itโs simple yet so pretty and elegant.
I re-use my handmade ornaments either tweaking them a bit or just as they are. There are so many ways to save on your decoration and donโt break our back each year.
where to start decorating your Tree
What I do before anything else is put the lights on all over the tree as I was placing each row of branches.
This tree is BIG! Itโs 7 feet and really leafy so I had to use about 1000 lights because my lights are led and are not as bright as the normal ones. I love it! LOL.
My next step was hanging the ribbon on the tree. I used 4 rolls of black and white buffalo check ribbon. The length will depend on each tree and how fluffy you want each segment but I segmented it would look random.
I started at the top of the tree adding the first strand towards the top of the tree, and then using green pipe cleaner I secured the ribbon on the branches.
Working my way down the tree with the ribbon I went finding the next good stopping point to secure the ribbon tightly around the branch. Also made twists to make them more natural.
hanging the Ornaments!!!
I started with my most popular Christmas Ornament: Rustic flocked pinecones. I switched the ribbon bow for a twine bow and look how pretty it looks!
Just like last year, I upcycled some baubles. I wrapped some ugly baubles with black and white buffalo check fabric, and added a cute ribbon bow which is as good as new! Love how they turned out!
I also made this year these cute Buffalo Check Embroidery Hoop Ornaments and also the Monogrammed Embroidery Hoop Ornaments so I spread them around the tree.
I also used my cute burlap ornaments (only the white ones this year), white, red, and clear baubles. And of course, I could not leave behind my mini wooden signs. Especially the โBelieveโ one.
As centered as I could, I placed a โMerry Christmasโ wood sign.
Finally, as a Christmas tree topper I used a wooden rustic star I found in a shop. I just love it. I wasnโt sure if I should go for a bow or a star but when I saw the star I fell in love with it.
As a Christmas tree skirt, I used a piece of white fur fabric. I already had it from past years so what I did was cut on one side to be able to go around the treeโs base to cover the tree foot.
Around the Christmas tree, I used a crate filled with a cozy blanket and throw pillows. Put my cute wooden skates next to it and also my nativity right underneath the tree.
At night it looks so pretty and sparkling! My girl loved it so much.
Iโll be sharing more from the Christmas home decor soon so stay tuned!
Christmas Tree Tips
- Choose inexpensive plaid ribbons in black and white to make a buffalo plaid pattern.
- Reuse old decorations by giving them a vintage look. You can paint them black and white or wrap them in burlap to give them a unique and affordable appearance.
- Buffalo check tree skirt: Use an old plaid blanket or flannel fabric to make a tree skirt with a buffalo plaid design. Make it into a round shape and add a white frilly edge to make it look cozy.
- Turn mason jars into old-fashioned lanterns by putting battery-powered tea lights inside. Put them on the tree to create a cozy and enchanting atmosphere.
- Make special ornaments by using black and white scrapbook paper. Cut circles and fold them in half. Use glue to stick two halves together to make 3D decorations.
- Make your own special decorations with the initials of your family on wooden or ceramic discs. Use black and white paint to make them match the theme.
- Make bows using burlap or plaid ribbons and tie them onto the tree branches.
Well, thatโs it. Thatโs our Black and White Christmas Tree for this year and I hope you like it as much as we do. As imperfect as it can be, itโs perfect for us because we put so much love into it.
Okay, friends- I’m going to get back to my Christmas movies and enjoying my cozy decor. So Happy start to the holiday season!!! I’ll leave you with some more photos!
